CHARACTER
Name: Zeheart Galette
Canon: Mobile Suit Gundam AGE
Timeline: Episode 48, upon deciding to launch personally
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a
Personality: The first thing about Zeheart, and the easiest to notice, is his zeal and loyalty. In the sense of his beliefs, Zeheart is extremely passionate. From the beginning, he held the Vagan ideal (or what he thought Lord Ezelcant's motive was) in the highest regard, willing to sacrifice himself to achieve the Eden he and many other Vagan dreamed of. He's even willing to sever the ties of friendship and fight against those he cares about to do so, and refused to even consider the possibility that Ezelcant was deceiving him when his old friend Asem tried to alert him to that fact. It took a recording made by either Asem's Gundam or his son Kio's, which contained a recording of Ezelcant himself stating his goals in no uncertain terms, to convince Zeheart to confront him. And despite that, Zeheart still remained loyal to Ezelcant after he had explained himself.
That said, Zeheart isn't willing to simply abandon others. He shows the utmost compassion to his soldiers and friends. Throughout the second generation, Zeheart had plenty of good opportunities to finish Asem off for good, but he never took them (his older brother Desil even called him out on this the first time he did so, when he had Asem at the tip of his beam saber). Additionally, when he and Asem destroyed the mobile fortress Downes together, Zeheart maneuvered his mobile suit to take a hit from a large chunk of debris that would have otherwise struck the Gundam AGE-2. To further hammer this home, they had been about to attempt atmospheric entry, so Zeheart would have died had one of his subordinates (Dole Frost) not given his own life to shield him from the heat. As for his own men, Zeheart refuses to let a soldier's death be in vain, and makes it a point to memorize the names of those who have died under his command. He once recited the names of the pilots who died in a particular operation before a subordinate (Fram Nara, who, to make things even more complicated, was Dole's younger sister) and earned her loyalty in doing so. This instance is particularly noteworthy because, prior to this, Fram had been sent by one of Zeheart's rivals to spy on him, and had vowed to kill Zeheart herself if she determined him to be a leader whom she deemed unworthy to command. And when he had to sacrifice Fram near the end to destroy the Diva and the Gundams, he did so with a tremendous amount of resignation.
However, Zeheart's passion also ultimately led to his downfall. His undying loyalty to Ezelcant put him in conflict with the Asuno family from the moment he enlisted until his death, and turned him into a fanatic after Ezelcant explained the truth behind Project Eden. But the real clincher came when Fram died in Zeheart's failed gambit to destroy the protagonists' Gundams. He suffered a tremendous breakdown and launched on his own, running on pure emotion and intent on avenging Fram's death by destroying all three heroes' Gundams himself. This impaired his piloting ability, and he finally lost to Asem and died when his Gundam Legilis exploded from the damage inflicted upon it.
But Zeheart doesn't run on passion all the time. He is quite capable of making logical decisions, and in fact spent much of the series in a calm, level-headed state of mind. This enables him to make solid tactical decisions within the heat of battle, and in turn allows him to be an effective leader. Admittedly, his track record against the Diva was a poor one, but that usually came about from factors he couldn't foresee (such as Flit entering the battle at Big Ring or that the Federation would consider launching a plasma diver missile at the Luna Base if they couldn't take it) or from insubordination (usually at the hands of Desil or one of the Magicians Eight) than his own mistakes. In fact, his tactics were logically sound more often than not, and he was willing to dispose of troublesome elements -- including his own brother -- if they proved too troublesome to be useful. This, combined with his passion and his skill at piloting a mobile suit, made him one of Vagan's most valuable fighting men.
And yet, deep down, Zeheart didn't want to fight. As he admitted to Asem just before he died, his heart's truest desire was simply to fall in love and raise a family. He wanted to live a normal life, but unfortunately, circumstances didn't permit him to do so. This was also why he looked back upon his time being a spy in Colony Tordia as fondly as he did -- while there, he had gone to high school and participated in the junior mobile suit club, so it was the closest thing to a normal life he had. In the end, Zeheart, like so many other good men and women, turned out to be a casualty of war long before he died.
First Person:
[The video feed shows a young man with tan skin and long, lavender hair looking seriously toward his communication watch.]
If I may have your attention, please -- my name is Zeheart Galette, and I am a new arrival in this city. There are a few subjects I would like to address.
First, to all who witnessed my scene on the platform yesterday, I would like to apologize. When I came here, I was far more wrapped up in my emotions than I should have been, due to events at home. I have calmed down now, so there's no need to worry about my well-being.
Second, I wish to get involved here as soon as I can. If anyone is thinking of venturing outside the city, please let me join you. I am a trained soldier and have experience in battlefield tactics, and I know I can add to any exploration group.
And last, is there someone I could talk to about creating a weapon? My primary weapon was not brought here with me, and I would like to have more to rely on than what I already have.
Thank you for listening.
[And just like that, the feed ends.]
Third Person: It was times like these when Zeheart found himself wishing that he had a mobile suit here with him. He and his group were surrounded by a group of ferocious wolves. These wolves were not only bigger than any Zeheart had ever seen, they also looked evil, with red eyes and huge fangs glistening with drool.
While the wolves circled, Zeheart assessed his group's situation. Everyone was armed, and two people, himself included, had some degree of psychic powers. The other three were mundane humans. Before long, Zeheart had formulated a plan. He reached to his belt and pulled a flashbang from it.
"Everyone," he said calmly, "shield your eyes. The wolves will not attack until I act." Two of the others nodded; they knew about Zeheart's X-Rounder abilities, since he had pulled them aside prior to the expedition to explain them. Ten seconds later, they all had their eyes closed.
A pulse of psychic energy reached Zeheart's brain. It was time. He threw the flashbang into the ground, shielding his own eyes. The flashbang exploded, drenching the area in bright light. Once it faded, he opened his eyes.
The wolves were whining and thrashing about, obviously blinded by the light. "Now -- attack!" Zeheart pulled his handgun as he shouted and emptied two bullets into the nearest wolf's head. Around him, the other members of the group likewise attacked with their own weapons. Gunshots rang out, arrows whizzed through the air, and the sound of steel striking bone could be heard. Within minutes, all the wolves were dead. Zeheart took a deep breath.
"Everyone seems all right. Let's get out of here before we have to deal with scavengers, too."
With that, Zeheart led the way. They continued to walk away from the city, toward the unknown wilderness.
